PAID Fire Cadet Employment

Cadet Firefighter Academy Applications due September 20th by 12pm.

Application Process:

Mandatory Informational Session:

Applicants must attend one of the two Informational Sessions being offered in order to test. 

Sunday, September 8th @ 5:30pm

Tuesday, September 10th @ 6:00pm

Both sessions will be held at Porter First Baptist Church, 24570 FM 1314  Porter, Texas 77365

Applications:

Applications will be accepted beginning September 3rd through 12pm on September 20th. After applications are screened, the top 100 applicants will advance to the Written Exam.

Written Exam:

Written Exam Dates will be released at the Mandatory Informational Session. Written Exams are by invitation only. The written exam will consist of questions based on general aptitude.

Physical Agility Test:

Applicants that pass the Written Exam will advance to the Physical Agility Test (PAT). This will be modified from the normal PAT for certified firefighters.

Scoring:

All scores will be compiled from the written and physical agility test in rank order to form the final list. Invites to the interview will be given based on the combined rank order of those two components.

Do I need to have any prior experience? 

No, this is a unique opportunity to fullfill your DREAM of becoming a Firefighter and get paid while doing it.  

If I am chosen for the Academy will I need to pay anything? 

No

While I am in the Academy, will I earn a Salary?

Yes, Cadets will earn a salary while attending certification classes for Firefighter and EMT. (Please see flyer for details)

When will the EMT Program begin? 

Pending next Academy

When will the Fire Program begin? 

Pending next Academy

When is the anticipated graduation? 

Pending next Academy

What will happen upon graduation? 

Candidates that successfully complete both programs will go on to become full time Firefighters with Porter Fire Department working a 48/96 work schedule.

Testing Process:

1. Applicants must pass a written exam with a grade of 70 or higher.

2. Applicants must pass a PAT (Physical Agility Test)

  • Written Exam

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be 18 years of age 
  • Must have basic certification for Structural Fire Suppression from the T.C.F.P. (Applies only to Certified Firefighters)
  • Must be EMT- B certified  through the Texas Department of Health or National Registry (Applies only to Certified Firefighters)
  • Applicants should have a Texas Class C Drivers License or better.
